Flat Classroom Student Summit

Throughout my experience in the flat classroom project I researched the power and influence of Google in the world and how it can affect groups of people. I primarily learned how to complete work independently as well as rely on a group of people to contribute their own work to produce an end result. I learned that it is difficult to count on other people to complete projects efficiently, effectively, and on time. Learning these skills has helped prepare me for my future career where I may be faced with similar situations.

Along with learning life lessons through the flat classroom project, I also learned how to use many different Internet tools like edmodo, file converting soft wares, video sharing, and blogging as well as basic digital tools like Windows Movie Maker and PowerPoint.

I enjoyed collaborating with people from around the world on this project and it is very unique because I don't think that I would have many other learning situations that this would be possible.

I think that as this project develops through the years there should be more live communication between students. Currently there is a messaging room set up for all members of the project, but it would be fun to have a live voice chat room or video chat sessions so that students feel like they are connecting and getting to know the people that they work with.

Flat Classroom Project and World Wide Communication

There are many technology tools that people can use for fun that can also be educational. For example, twitter is a fun tool to use to communicate with other people and share ideas. It can be educational as well as fun because my digital communication tools class uses a specific hash tag that allows us to all keep track of what each other is posting. Sites like Pinterest and Edmodo are also very fun to use for educational purposes.  Pinterest has such an incredibly vast amount of ideas on it that allows students to be inspired for projects and Edmodo is a very organized place to keep track of assignments and grades. Edmodo also allows people to easily upload projects and assignments.

Along with social networking sites for collaboration, video sharing and research projects can be done online.  On the Flat Classroom project, we get to work with people from other parts of the world to combine ideas for research papers.  We all have access to edit the same pages, similar to a google document.  We also get to use video soft wares to communicate with people and meet people online. We can take clips that other people created for us and use them in our own videos.  It is fun to be able to connect and communicate with people from around the world.

There are many large businesses in the world today that have multiple locations that do different things. Sometimes the locations are overseas or far away and the company may need to hold a meeting. The only way to do that would be to fly everyone to the same place or use video sharing and face time tools. If I ever work for one of those companies it will be helpful to already know how to use technology like we do in the Flat Classroom Project.

Communication has become extremely fast through the Internet and people in the world today have become very accustomed to instantaneous progress. If we have expectations out of others for immediate responses, then we should know that other people want us to give immediate responses as well. We will work faster for each other and we will work as a team with digital communication.

Hello! The purpose of this blog is to share the information that I learn through my Digital Communication Tools class.  I will post things about digital citizenship and how to use the internet with a purpose in mind.

Digital Citizenship is using good ethics online in social media, being safe about postings, and being smart about internet use.

I only have a couple of social media pages set up, but overall I believe that I have done a good job of being ethical and respectful to others.  For one of the assignments for this class, we had to make public twitter accounts.  I felt like I had to be extra careful of what I posted because not only could my direct friends see my profile, but anyone on the internet could.  I learned to be sure that I was smart about my posts.

I made an info graphic about Digital Citizenship in connection to teens.  I included statistics about the internet and teens on the info graphic, and created it in an original way to make it interesting and exciting to learn about.
